As the general contractor and builder on this massive site, Heartland Builders managed everything from start to finish—delivering a true turn-key build spanning more than 11 acres under roof across three major facilities:
Gestation Barn: Nearly 7 acres under one roof, housing over 10,800 sows across Gestal pens, Free Access Stall pens, gilt pens, and more—illuminated by over 3,000 LED lights.
Farrowing Facility: Covering 3.5+ acres with 2,088 crates across 20 rooms.
GDU (Grower-Developer Unit): Adding another 0.8+ acres housing 3,700+ head, bringing total site capacity to well over 16,000 pigs.
Building across a massive footprint engineered to handle South Dakota’s harshest elements—such as 113 MPH winds and 50 PSF snow loads—utilizes heavy-duty all-steel construction and PIR insulated metal panels. Pulling all of that together demands flawless ex*****on in the field.
Managing a build of this magnitude relies entirely on our ability to coordinate complex, high-stakes moving parts in the field:
Complete Turn-Key Ex*****on: Handling every phase from initial ground break to final interior fit-out, including heavy site utility infrastructure like a 174,000-gallon cistern fed by (6) 5 HP submersible pumps, a 5" fire hydrant hookup, (2) 600 KW backup generators, and a 30,000-gallon propane system.
Complex Equipment Installation: Full, precise installation of specialized systems—including site-wide ventilation moving over 4.5 million CFM through 220+ wall fans and 2,090 ceiling inlets, dual-stage filtration via 2,080+ filter boxes housing 8,300+ individual filters, and a massive feed network holding nearly 800 tons of storage.
