🙁It’s rare that we promote the squishing of bugs, but that’s what we need you to do when you find spotted lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula)! First reported in the U.S. in 2014, this invasive pest reproduces quickly and is especially damaging to crops. 🌿They feed on a wide range of plants including native grapevines, hops, and other trees and shrubs.

You can’t miss this bug—adult lanternflies are tan with black-spotted wings and red hind wings. They may be mistaken for moths or spotted beetles, but their striking wings set them apart upon closer inspection.

Want to help reduce spotted lanternfly? Their preferred host plant is the invasive tree-of-heaven (Ailanthus altissima). Survey your property and remove plants if possible. Learn more about this invasive at ohiodnr.gov.

A quick response can make all the difference on an environmental cleanup.

ERC recently responded to a mineral oil spill from a 25 KVA pole-mounted transformer in Morrow County. The spill occurred just off I-71 near a busy Sheetz intersection during the middle of a Thursday afternoon, making traffic control and public safety a top priority.

Our crew mobilized with the right equipment and traffic control to safely complete the cleanup while keeping traffic moving.

In one visit, the team:
• Removed the impacted soil
• Backfilled the area with clean topsoil
• Applied seed and straw
• Restored the site before leaving

Good communication and photos from the field helped our team arrive prepared with everything needed to complete the work safely and efficiently.

Keeping stormwater systems functioning properly takes more than a quick inspection. It takes boots on the ground and the right equipment.

ERC's crews recently completed stormwater system cleaning services, removing sediment, debris, and accumulated material from stormwater infrastructure to help maintain system performance and support environmental compliance.
