Congratulations to the White River State Park Development Commission, our partners, and the entire team on being honored with an Indiana ASLA Award!

The White River State Park Extension received a Merit Award for Unbuilt Work at the Annual Awards Gala last week. MKSK is leading a multidisciplinary team to implement the 10-acre landside extension to White River State Park, centered on the restoration and adaptive reuse of the Kahn Pavilion as a year-round event and community space that honors the Valley neighborhood’s 150-year legacy. The design celebrates the area's limestone history through a visitor experience that moves from stone outcroppings and active quarry walls to reclaimed quarry sites, while green spaces and terraces evoke the forested bluffs that once overlooked the White River. Serving as the civic gathering place for the One Health Innovation District, the park extension connects to the future Indianapolis Cultural Trail and demonstrates the interconnectedness of human, environmental, plant, and animal health.

This American Wetlands Month, we're celebrating the power of wetlands to strengthen both communities and ecosystems.

At Unity Park in Greenville, South Carolina, MKSK partnered with the City of Greenville, South Carolina Government to transform a flood-prone industrial corridor into a vibrant public space centered around the restoration of the Reedy River and its surrounding wetlands. By reconnecting the river to its floodplain, restoring riparian habitats, improving water quality, and creating resilient recreational spaces, Unity Park demonstrates how ecological restoration can support community well-being, environmental stewardship, and equitable development.

Today, restored wetlands, expanded habitat corridors, and nature-based infrastructure help the park recover quickly from flood events while providing educational, recreational, and cultural opportunities for residents and visitors alike. Unity Park stands as a model for how investing in healthy wetlands can create more resilient, connected, and vibrant places for generations to come.

Grandview Heights recently held its first public meeting to gather residents’ feedback, ideas, and support for the updated Grandview Heights Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Led by MKSK, the project team is seeking community input on potential improvements, new facilities, and additional recreational spaces residents would like to see throughout the city. During the meeting, Principal Andrew Overbeck shared insights into the planning process and discussed when residents can expect to see changes take shape, with the final plan expected to be completed later this year.
