The Outdoor Watercolor Learning Experience - OWLE

The OWLE teaches the primary lessons necessary to execute a beautiful personal watercolor painting in or from a natural setting based on landscape painting techniques. It engages the mind and leaves plenty of room for your heart. In addition, this site is to share the experience of visual storytelling process that comes from observation, specifically of nature, but generally of life and our surroundings.

Before I even touch paint to the mural surface I work out all of the problems in a small drawing to painting.

This piece is called, “Riding the Creative Wave”. It’s inspired by the song, “Anything” by MAE. They sing about being loosed to ride the wave of a dream when powered by love. I just imagine myself surfing on a giant paint brush as paint spills out to paint what my imagination sees.
