Have you ever needed a tool and didn't know its correct name, or even if it was the most efficient tool for the job? In this workshop, we will have a variety of hand and power tools for you to identify and try out. We'll go over the appropriate ways to safely handle tools and most importantly, you'll also have the opportunity to practice your skills with some good, old-fashioned hands-on fun. Yes, YOU can learn how to use basic construction tools to make your house a home!

** FATHER'S DAY SPECIAL: We are opening this workshop to folks of ALL genders to acknowledge the skills shared by our adult guardians! ** Take our class and then head to brunch ... or the hardware store.

INSTRUCTOR: Chrissy Marsey, union electrician and founder of Central Ohio Women in the Trades.

Sunday, June 21st at 10 AM - 12 PM

An Evening with Green Columbus is a celebration for tree lovers, community builders, sustainability enthusiasts, and anyone who believes a greener Columbus is possible.

This first-of-its-kind event brings together people who care about trees, neighborhoods, and the future of our city. Come, Bring a friend, and get ready to geek out about trees with people who get it.

We're celebrating what's been growing and raising $25,000 for more tree plantings. Because if Columbus needs more shade, more beauty, and more green spaces, we might as well have a good time making it happen.

The evening will feature live music, a Green Carpet step-and-repeat photo moment, networking, vegetarian bites, drink tickets, and a native tree auction. We'll also hear from special speakers and local green heroes helping shape the future of Columbus' urban forest.

Columbus has a lot of growing to do. Right now, our tree canopy covers about 22% of the city, and we know that number looks and feels very different depending on the neighborhood. Some streets have shade, birdsong, and tree-lined sidewalks. Others are still waiting for the comfort and protection trees bring.

That's why this night matters. Reserve your ticket, bring a friend, and walk the Green Carpet with us. Tickets are limited due to rooftop capacity, so please secure your spot today to support our local canopy.

Ahh, humidity! We love DOGWOOD trees and shrubs, and they love humidity and a bit of seasonal snow. We could not grow happy dogwoods when I lived in places like San Jose, CA -- too hot and dry. Say what you will about humidity, at least we can grow dogwoods outstanding in our Ohio fields.

This is a very old cultivar (100+ years old, no longer under patent) that I took a cutting from about 10 years ago. Now we use the mature shrub to teach students how to propagate woody plants. One fun fact about buying a yellow dogwood from CGS -- you can see what the parent plant looks like! You can also visit our red shrub dogwoods as well as native and Chinese dogwood trees on the property here.

1 gallon shrub = $14
3 gallon shrub = $28

As always, limited supply of plants.

TODAY'S TRIVIA: The name "dogwood" likely comes from its tough, straight twigs, which were historically used in Old English as butcher's skewers or small daggers, known as "dags" or "dagwood". Over centuries of use, the word "dagwood" eventually shifted into the easier-to-pronounce "dogwood". (Source - Wikipedia)
