The Open Door House was founded in 2017 by Kathy Lista, who was inspired after helping furnish an apartment for two young adults aging out of foster care. Seeing the level of support they needed prompted her to reflect on the challenges young adults face when they leave foster care at age 18.

The Open Door House provides faith, hope, and a safe, structured residential program for young adults ages 18 to 21. Through its six-pillar model, residents receive housing, education and career support, structure and coaching, life-skills training, money-management guidance, and the encouragement they need to build successful futures. The organization currently operates two homes: The Grace House for young women and The Ezekiel House for young men, which opened in June. Each home can serve two residents and includes a resident support person who helps guide participants through the program. The Open Door House plans to expand so it can support more young adults, with funding being raised through events and donations. Its next event, Corks for a Cause, is scheduled for October 15. For more information about the event or ways to donate, please visit the organization’s website ://www.theopendoorhouse.org/ or visit their page The Open Door House.
