As some of you may know, the man who built the business up to where it is today, passed away on Thursday February 9th at home surrounded by family after a courageous 3 1/2 year battle with cancer. Dad continued to be out on the job sites until the middle of December when he no longer could due to his health. He continued the scheduling and billing at home. He absolutely loved his job as an electrician. Dad was a simple man and wanted to remembered as such, being buried in his jean jacket, King’s Electric work shirt, blue jeans and his work boots.
Many people showed up to pay their final respects including his former boss Darrell Shick. Dad started as an electrician working for Darrell at Shick Electric before eventually fulfilling his dream of owning his own business. When Darrell visited at the funeral home that Monday he said he didn’t know that Dad had passed away. He was taking a walk earlier that day when the wind blew a newspaper his way. He was about to just crumble it up but then decided to open it and that’s when he saw Dad’s obituary. That was definitely Dad letting Darrell know that he had passed.
I will continue Dad’s dream of the business by keeping it in operation and providing quality work. Although Dad taught me pretty much everything I know as an electrician, I’ll never be able to fully fill his shoes. He was the one who not only would do the physical work with me, he would schedule the jobs and write up the invoices. It’s always been a family business but now it’s just me. I hope that I can make you proud Dad. I love you and miss you.
Side Note: I apologize for not returning calls the past 2-3 weeks. Dad was hospitalized for a week at Shadyside and then I brought him home to be as comfortable as he could be. Taking care of him the best we could was my number 1 priority. I will be returning calls on Tuesday to see if those who called still need work done and if not I understand not being able to wait. Thank you to everyone for your understanding, thoughts and prayers.
