We get asked all the time:
"Why can't you just bring in truckloads of dirt, fill in the low side, and pour the concrete on top?"
It sounds simple, but loose dirt behaves like a sponge. If you just pile soil on a massive slope, the weight of the new concrete will compress that dirt unevenly. Over time, the earth shifts, water washes it away, and your brand-new slab cracks, sinks, and fails.
Here is what it actually takes to secure a sloped foundation:
Digging to the Footers: We must excavate down to native, undisturbed soil to pour solid concrete footers.
Anchoring the Structure: Footers act as the feet of the build, transferring the weight of the slab deep into solid ground.
Building Up safely: Only after the footers and retaining walls are structurally locked into the earth can we safely backfill and prep the pad.
Placing the V***r Barrier: We lay down a thick, heavy-duty 6-mil plastic v***r barrier across the entire pad to block ground moisture from seeping up into your finished home.
Laying the Rebar Grid: We build a heavy grid of steel rebar elevated on chairs to give the concrete its ultimate structural strength.
Running the Mesh Wire: We layer in steel mesh wire to prevent surface cracking and ensure the slab cures as one solid, unbroken stone.
The Final Inspection: Only when the steel, plastic, footers, and leveling are completely flawless do we call out the inspector to sign off for the big pour.
