The Tractor Seat Plant (Farfugium japonicum var. giganteum, or Ligularia) is a striking herbaceous perennial. Named for its large, glossy, leathery leaves that resemble vintage iron tractor seats, it brings a lush, tropical feel to shaded gardens and patio containers.
Ideal Growing ConditionsLight: Partial to full shade is essential. Protect it from harsh, direct afternoon sun, which will scorch and wilt its dramatic leaves.
Soil: Thrives in rich, humus-heavy, and consistently moist to wet soil. It is a perfect addition to damp woodland gardens or near water features.
Hardiness Zones: Outdoors in USDA Zones 7 through 10. In cold winter climates, it can be grown in containers and brought indoors.
Size: Forms a dense, clumping mound reaching about 2-3 feet tall and 3 feet wide.
