With wildfire smoke moving across parts of the country, we’re hearing from contractors and homeowners who are finding ash and smoke residue settling on vehicles, decks, and other outdoor surfaces, including logs.
While a little dust or debris may not seem like a big deal, allowing contaminants to sit on your home’s exterior can become part of your maintenance challenge. If your area has been impacted by heavy smoke or ash:
• Wash away residue and buildup as needed.
• If you’re planning restoration work, additional cleaning may need to be done first.
• Take a walk around your home and check horizontal surfaces, decks, and exposed logs.
• Use that opportunity to inspect your stain system, look for areas where water isn’t shedding properly, finish wear, or places needing attention.
