Every great yard has a door worth opening.

This arched entry gate at Pasadena Ave is the kind of detail that tells you something about what's on the other side before you ever get there. Warm wood, iron hardware, cobblestone underfoot, and magenta petunias that show up like they own the place.

A fireplace tucked into a brick courtyard. A water wall pouring under a canopy of oaks. A ginkgo grove with a carved bench and gravel underfoot. This is Cherokee Trail in the fall, and it looks like this because someone made a phone call months before the leaves started turning.

Someone already put out the watermelon. That's how you know it's almost summer.

A covered pavilion at Vaquero Estates with a tongue-and-groove ceiling, a sectional that fits the whole family, and a dining table already set for the evening. The glass walls open to a manicured lawn, a reflecting pool, and enough shade to make staying outside an easy decision all summer long.
