Ferratella's Landscaping

Ferratella's Landscaping Contact us to schedule your 100% hassle free, no obligation estimate. Ferratella’s Lawn Grooming was started in 1992 as part-time operation.

Joe Ferratella was the original owner and, upon graduation from Cornell, he put to use his landscaping and plants courses that he took at Cornell until he found a ‘real job’. Joe employed his son Dan when he was only 12 years old and Dan learned the business from an early age. When Dan was only 14 years old he was supervising a second crew for his dad and gained the respect and trust from the empl

oyees. After high school Dan moved away for a few years and has been an integral part of the day to day operations ever since. Joe has used his ‘Cornell Connections’ with the Cornell Co-Operative Extension to research and find unbiased solutions to any problem areas that may arise when providing quality Lawn care. An example is using Cornell Nutrients Laboratory to determined the proper needs to improve soil quality so when Ferratella’s installs a new lawn you’re starting out with a good base for your lawn to grow and thrive. He was trained in the proper planting and pruning techniques for over 350 woody plants. He also studied and apprenticed the Cornell Master Gardeners to improve upon pruning those techniques. After over 20 years of working in the family business Dan is ready to take over the day to day operations and dad will be working for his son in an attempt to semi-retire. Dan has 20 plus years experience in specialized services that very few people have in the Corning area. He will still have the Cornell connection with associates through the Cornell Co-operative Extension.

Here are a few pictures of the job we did this morning. We totally removed and tore up what was supposed to be a yard, removed just over 4 yards of soil/w**ds, grated it by hand, and then seeded, and covered with hay. This will take apx 2 weeks for the seed to germinate, we use a slower germinating seed we mix specifically for each property. Slower germinating seed lets the roots get established before you see grass, a few benefits from that is a healthy, w**d free yard that can withstand the conditions from Mother Nature.

Today’s job is installing a new yard for our client. They haven’t been able to get grass growing except w**ds. They have had another company try it twice with no luck so now they have put their trust and faith in us! We are tearing the yard, starting from scratch, and did a soul analysis through agro one in Ithaca who uses Cornell University standards. Stay tuned for our progress!

We helped this client out today...the tenants parking area turned to mud with tire tracks (over a foot deep in olaces) throughout, it was so bad they could t park there without getting stuck. We came in today, leveled everything out and spread over 18ton of stone the parking area as per the clients request. The tenants s were so happy to park and be able to walk to their porch’s again they were parking there before we left and both tenants thanked me for the work we did for them. It’s nice when your clients and their people appreciate the work you do for them.

As the owner writing this post, I always said every year I wanted to do a fundraiser for the people of this community who have stood by our side as we grow. This year, I want to do a fundraiser (possibly glass fest) to help children out in this area. Thinking of helping kids/families with cancer or another horrible disease. When I was 7, I lost my brother to brain cancer at 18 after a 2 year battle. With that being said, that’s why I’d like to do something to raise money for the families. What we want to know, what organization (non profit) should we help? What groups could really use a donation? Please give us ideas to find a group to help while keeping the money local (Corning/Elmira area). Any and all in out would be greatly appreciated!
