Today is Memorial Day. Before the cookouts and the long weekend wind down, we want to pause and recognize what the day is actually for: the service members who didn't come home.

Across Mahoning and Trumbull counties, plenty of families carry that loss quietly. Neighbors, classmates, parents, kids.

We don't have anything to say about Memorial Day that the day itself doesn't already say better. We just wanted to stop and acknowledge it.

Three roofs we looked at recently. Three different answers.

A homeowner in Howland thought she needed a full roof. The last contractor told her so. She didn't. Loose flashing on the north slope, 90 minutes of work, $280, and another eight to ten years on a roof that still has life in it.

We're hiring an experienced roofer here in Cortland.

This is a full-time crew position with year-round work. Forty-hour weeks. No seasonal layoffs in January, no scrambling to find side work in February. We keep our crews busy through the winter because we book the work to do it.

What we're looking for: someone who's been on a roof before, knows the difference between tear-off and overlay, can read a pitch, and shows up on time. Metal experience is a plus but not required. We'll train the right person.

What you get:
Competitive pay based on what you actually know and what you can do, not a flat starting rate that takes three years to grow out of. A real path to foreman or crew leader if you want it, with the responsibility and pay that comes with it. A small, local crew where you're not a number.

If you're in Solon, Seven Hills, Bedford Heights, Garrettsville, Ravenna, Kent, Streetsboro, or anywhere from Cuyahoga County through Portage and Trumbull counties, your roof got tested last night.
Golf ball-sized hail and 60 mph winds hit northeast Ohio hard. The Governor already declared a State of Emergency for four counties. We've been getting calls since this morning. Here's the thing about hail damage on a roof: you usually can't see it from your driveway. The dents in your gutters and the cracks in your siding are visible. But the real damage is on the shingles themselves, where the hail knocked loose the protective granules. That damage doesn't leak today. It leaks in 6 months when the exposed spot deteriorates.
What you should do right now:
Walk your property. Look for dented gutters, cracked siding, broken window screens, and shingle pieces in your yard. Take photos of everything before you clean up. If you see damage, call your insurance company and file a claim. Most homeowner policies cover hail damage, and in Ohio you typically have one year from the date of the storm to file.
Then call us. We'll come out, do a full roof inspection, and document every impact point with photos your adjuster can use. We've been doing this across northeast Ohio since 2013. We don't charge for storm damage inspections, and we work directly with insurance companies to make sure nothing gets missed.
If your roof is older than 15 years and it took golf ball hail last night, don't wait on this one. The longer you sit on it, the harder the claim gets.
