DVDCreative ... Designing landscapes that create community ... David Volz Design (DVD) is committed to the creative design of outstanding public spaces.

We develop streetscapes and all types of public landscapes to meet the specific needs of our client’s communities. For all of our commissions, the DVD team works to enhance the project program, we work within environmentally sound parameters while taking full advantage of the site and its surroundings to best service the community’s needs. Ever mindful of our role as stewards of the land, DVD’s de

sign philosophy includes careful consideration for realistic maintenance requirements and construction cost parameters. Our company understands the importance of protecting the environment, protecting our resources and the health of future generations. DVD is proud to be a LEED Accredited and a Qualified Stormwater Designer QSD company. We understand the commitment we have to the public to deliver quality projects that offer a high return for the public funds invested; projects that can be maintained and deliver a lifetime of service to the communities they are built for. Our philosophy also embraces any opportunity to interact with the public to create environments that meet their needs. DVD’s proven outreach approach has often been the catalyst for our most successful projects. Our proven approach and the input we receive from our clients and their communities provide the inspiration that leads to our most creative and innovative solutions. Streetscapes and greenspaces designed by our firm have received awards and accolades from community groups, civic organizations, the American Public Works Association, the California Parks and Recreation Society and the National Recreation and Park’s Society. In fact, this year one of our street enhancement projects, Balboa Boulevard in Newport Beach, won the APWA Project of the Year Award.

🎉📣 Now Open - The Jeffrey Open Space Trail Bicycle & Pedestrian Bridge

The nearly 1,200-foot-long bridge spans Walnut Avenue, the Caltrans Jeffrey Road Park & Ride, and the I-5 Freeway. It connects to the Jeffrey Open Space Trail and the Cypress Village Trail to the north and to the JOST extension to the south. This bridge completes a key link in a trail network extending from the Pacific Ocean to the Santa Ana Mountains and the Cleveland National Forest. It also marks a significant step toward a more connected and sustainable community.

The Rancho Mirage City Hall site improvements create a more sustainable, welcoming, and resilient civic campus. The design reduces water use and maintenance through drought-adapted plantings, elimination of turf and spray irrigation, and energy-efficient lighting, while adding shade, erosion control, and inviting public gathering spaces. Together, these enhancements create a high-quality landscape that reflects the desert environment and promotes employee and visitor well-being. The design of Rancho Mirage City Hall was highlighted by the Sustainable Sites Initiative. This initiative has created national guidelines and performance benchmarks for sustainable land design, construction, and maintenance practices.

🎉📣 Now Open - Barnes Park

Last month, the City of Baldwin Park celebrated the grand reopening of Barnes Park. The revitalized park now includes two full-size basketball courts, a new dog park, scenic walking trails, and an inclusive playground accessible to children of all abilities, allowing them to play, explore, and interact together. Other improvements consist of outdoor fitness equipment, expanded picnic areas with shaded seating, upgraded lighting, additional parking, drought-tolerant landscaping, and enhanced gathering spaces.

A couple of our employees recently attended the Intro to Design course at Hunter Industries, and it was a great, hands-on experience. The multi-day training gave them an incredible inside look at irrigation design, covering everything from factory tours and design instruction to in-depth discussions on hydraulics, irrigation components, and controller selection. The interactive design sessions and real-world site observations really brought classroom concepts to life.
