The beautiful winter look - the dormant canopy of a mature crape (crepe) myrtle.

A properly pruned (by thinning) crape myrtle like this one will yield the following when compared to an improperly pruned (by topping) tree:

Stronger wood
Earlier flowering/blooming
More blooms
Larger blooms
Less fungal decay of wood
More pollinating insects in the summer and fall
Fewer suckers (vertical upright growth at base)
Fewer watersprouts (vertical upright growth in canopy)
Fewer insects (aphids and white flies)
Less leaf spot (due to improved air circulation)
Enhanced trunk/bark features
More bird nesting

Please do not "murder" away.....think before you prune.....
