The Sentinel

Mineral Mountain felt very imposing given its relatively short height of 6,800 feet. Here, my wife and I were hiking between Copper Ridge Lookout and Silesia Camp when I noticed the mountain looking particularly impressive. Fortunately, my wife suggested a Peak Design camera clip some years back and I was using it, so I was able to grab this shot. I would have loved to have spent some time here fine-tuning this composition, but for a grab and go I am extremely happy with this one.

Peaks and Valleys

while it looks close Mount Blum (7,685’) is just over 10 miles away in this beautifully lit morning “portrait”. These types of shots always feel so formal to me, I don’t know why, maybe it feels a little like an office head shot to me, but I digress. I was really drawn to this shot, as I found myself going back to it several times to check if the shadows were more interesting. I love watching the light change at sunrise and sunset, it happens so fast that light can go from ho-hum to jaw dropping, especially if you have clouds moving through the scene. For me, this image exudes peacefulness and calm, which is exactly what this morning was.

The Way Home

Copper Ridge ended up making my top 3 most beautiful places I’ve ever been list. This is the view from the fire lookout as we were heading to Hannegan Pass which you can see in the distance. The trail you see is the Copper Ridge Loop Trail and just above that small round snow patch on the left, is where we camped on our first night. This image captures a little over 6 miles of our hike. The views were breathtaking everywhere you looked with granite and ice-covered peaks surrounded us on all sides. The conditions on this day made for fantastic pictures and cooler temperatures for hiking and kept the “horror movie” flies at bay. A wonderful memory for sure.
