I tell you what… this spotlight is SPOT ON. Logan is a man that truly cares about his students. His work ethic is second to none (just barely behind mine of course 🤣). He has a heart for education but glad I get him during the summer because he is the best worker I’ll ever have.
STAFF SPOTLIGHT 🌟 Meet Logan Hammond, special education teacher at Park Middle School. Logan fosters an environment of trust and steady support, helping students find their strengths and celebrate progress, big and small. Read more in his Q&A below.
“Logan makes relationships with students his first priority. His students know he is a safe adult that they can ask for help academically and emotionally. He encourages each of them and scaffolds material to help provide resources specifically designed for them. He is passionate about all students and wants to see them grow and thrive. He is an encourager. I have had the joy of being in the same room with him for the past four years and witnessed so many moments of students being taken care of and helped in so many ways by him. In a few sentences, briefly describe your role at LPS.
I am a seventh grade special education teacher. My job is to provide kids with individualized support both academically and emotionally. A lot of my time is spent providing math interventions and working on social and academic skills.
How long have you worked for LPS?
This is my fifth year working at Park Middle School.
What inspired you to become part of the education field at LPS?
I really enjoyed my practicum and student teaching placements in LPS. The teachers whom I had the opportunity to work with were all passionate about what they do and they did a great job modeling this for me. They made LPS feel like a place where you know you will be supported and somebody will always have your back.
What has been your favorite part of working here? What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding?
My favorite part of my job is having the opportunity to make an impact every day. I get to provide kids with consistency and a safe place while watching them grow and make progress. There is no better feeling than being able to provide a little spark to a student's day and helping them find their self-worth. I also really admire the diversity within LPS and love how it is celebrated and cherished. Aside from the students I get to work with the BEST educators. I couldn't do it without them.

I grew up in Ogallala, Neb.
What path did you take after completing your formal education?
I received my bachelor's degree in special education from Doane University. I plan to finish my master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Doane University by 2027.
What do you enjoy most about the Lincoln community?
Growing up in a smaller town in Nebraska, I love that Lincoln still has the feel of a community. Lincoln doesn't feel like most cities and I enjoy that people are friendly and willing to help one another.
What is your favorite childhood book or a book that has influenced your life positively?
“Magic Tree House” series. I really enjoyed getting lost in the adventure of these books growing up.
Share a shout out to a former teacher who impacted your life.
One teacher who impacted me greatly was Denee Wehrs at Doane. She played a huge part in helping me become an educator who truly cares about their students and takes time to build relationships. Also, thanks to the many great teachers in Ogallala who inspired me to pursue education.
