This kitchen was the result of reworking the current first floor living space. The customer wanted an open concept feel while not sacrificing the privacy that comes with walls and separated spaced. This was achieved by taking some walls down but not all of them. The kitchen was moved to the rear of the home, a 16'x16' room surrounded by windows from an addition added to the house roughly 25 years prior. The windows were too low to the ground for a kitchen so some windows were patched in to allow for cabinet/appliance space, while other windows were replaced, relocated, and a sliding door was installed. The ceiling framing was altered to allow for a cathedral ceiling and there was a last minute change of plans to add shiplap to the ceiling. Hardwood was to be installed in the kitchen to allow for a seamless transition, however when the addition was built 25 years, the builder built the room with vinyl flooring. This meant that all the original kitchen framing needed to be lowered by 3/4". We achieved this by sistering new 2x10 floor joists to the existing floor joists at the correct height, bolting the new joists to the old joists, and running a router along the top of the new joists to cut the old joists to the correct height. This was extremely labor intensive but it was just one of those things that needed to completed in order to make the final product work! And can't forget about the custom walk-in pantry. While going over corner cabinet options at the cabinet supplier we stumbled upon a walk-in corner pantry and decided that we had to have it! Found out that no cabinet company actually makes this, it was made by one of the cabinet designers using cabinet parts to make a "built-in". It took an incredible amount of time to just build the space, then we had to make cabinetry to store the food. This while corner pantry to so much time to perfect and finish but it was well worth it!!!
