What a week at RETA/RSES 2026—and so much to be grateful for!

Thank you to the Refrigerating Engineers & Technicians Association - RETA & Technicians Association and Refrigeration Service Engineers Society for bringing our industry together and advancing the knowledge, skills, and connections that keep it moving forward.

R.E. Lewis Refrigeration is honored to be represented by such an outstanding team. This week brought several special reasons to celebrate:

🏆 Michelle Burnett, our President of Business Development, received the 2026 Kim Snowden Award, recognizing her commitment to advancing women in refrigeration through mentorship, leadership, and opportunity.

🏆 Josh Lee is joining the RETA/RSES National Board and received the 2026 Felix Anderson Award, recognizing his exceptional service and commitment to the association and its members.

🌟 Gage Skarda was named to the 2026 RETA/RSES 30 Under 30 class, recognizing his leadership and ingenuity. We’re proud of how he represents our teams and the future of our industry.

We’re pretty certain none of these individuals enjoys being put in the spotlight, but their commitment to service and leadership deserves recognition.

Our R.E. Lewis family is growing—and we look forward to introducing you at RETA 2026!

R.E. Lewis Refrigeration has announced an agreement to acquire Industrial Mechanical Group Inc. (IMECH), led by President Gary Gilley. IMECH’s operations and personnel will officially join our organization on January 1, 2027.

For more than 60 years, our standard has been straightforward: do the right thing for the right reason, take ownership of complex challenges, and treat people like family.

Wayne Hanson, CEO of R.E. Lewis Refrigeration, said it best:

“Gary Gilley built IMECH on those same principles. Welcoming Gary and his crew into the R.E. Lewis family adds practical field and engineering capacity while preserving the direct, personal accountability our partners expect.”

Together, we’ll expand our ammonia refrigeration engineering, prefabrication, and regional service capabilities for food processors and cold storage facilities across the Midwest, South, and Southeast.

IMECH’s existing facility will become a hub for construction prefabrication, regional service technicians, and a dedicated parts division—helping keep projects moving and field crews equipped.

Organizations like RETA and RSES help operators, technicians, and other industry professionals keep learning, earn credentials, and connect with one another. That investment in people raises the standard of work across the industry.

At R.E. Lewis Refrigeration, training is part of how we serve our customers and support the people responsible for their systems. Through our training programs, we help teams build practical knowledge they can apply in the field.

When Gage Skarda was named to the 2026 RETA/RSES “30 Under 30” list, it recognized something we see at R.E. Lewis Refrigeration every day.

❄️ Meet John Gravlin, Construction Manager ❄️

John brings a steady hand and a background in agriculture to his work at R.E. Lewis Refrigeration. Over the past 10 years, he has become a valued part of the team, helping keep projects moving and people working together.

His coordination skills extend well beyond the jobsite: John is also a hot air balloon event director. When he’s off the clock, he enjoys woodworking and time with his two kids. And after a full day, his preferred way to cool down is simple: peach tea, ice cream, and some fresh air.

A Tradition That Means More Every Year 🎈

Some weekends are about more than an event—they’re about people, relationships, and traditions.

For more than 17 years, the Southwest Iowa Hot Air Balloon Races have been a special tradition for the R.E. Lewis Refrigeration family. It’s a weekend we look forward to every year: coming together with our families, celebrating our community, and making memories that go far beyond the work we do every day.

At the heart of this tradition is the relationship we’ve built over the years with our balloonists, Darcy and Marcy Hoch. What started around a hot air balloon has grown into a friendship and a tradition that has become part of the R.E. Lewis story. We’re grateful for the memories, laughs, and experiences we’ve shared along the way.

Moments like these remind us why we do what we do. R.E. Lewis Refrigeration has always been about more than refrigeration, projects, and equipment. It’s about the people beside us, the relationships we build, and the traditions that bring us together.

We’re proud to celebrate our R.E. Lewis Family—their commitment, their grit, and the families who support them along the way.
