Fresh Faced Cabinets Update your kitchen without the mess of a full demolition. Reface, paint, or accessorize. Louis City. It just changed forms.

David and Stephanie’s adventure in the home remodeling industry started almost 20 years ago when they met working together at Home Depot. Their first house was bought in 1999, a 100+ year old “fixer upper” in South St. They jumped in doing almost all the work themselves and never looked back. David became a Real Estate Appraiser and Broker, and with partners, began to invest in and rehab other homes for sale and rent. David did the business of buying, selling, and some of the rehab work while Stephanie designed kitchens, baths, and color schemes. Unfortunately, the downturn in the real estate market during the recession forced them and many others out of the rehabbing business. Luckily, their entrepreneurial and creative spirit never died. While working at FedEx, David began Cross Creek Woodworking, LLC, building wood furniture and decor with Stephanie helping with design and painting/finishing. Stephanie, while being a stay at home mom with three children, in 2011, channeled her artistic expressions into a successful online Etsy shop, TrueVineTreasures.etsy.com, where she creates personalized keepsake boxes. This passion for renovation has now expanded into a company dedicated to providing custom cabinet design through cabinet refacing and furniture restoration. Stephanie’s education is in interior design. In addition to her business operations, she has held positions as a kitchen designer, kitchen install manager, and countertop sales. David has a business degree, and past experience includes commercial printing customer service and sales, residential and commercial real estate sales and appraisal, retail paint sales, and FedEx courier. David and Stephanie live in Crestwood, Missouri, with their three school age children and dog, Pepper. They spend a lot of time as shuttle drivers to football practices, Boy and Girl Scouts, church, and school events, have been active Cub Scout Leaders, and are active volunteers and leaders in their church.

Not everyone who follows this page is doing a kitchen this year. Plenty of people are a long way out and just want to understand what the options are.

That is a good use of the time. The costly version is picking a construction method first and finding out later it was the wrong one for your house.

Save the posts you like. Ask questions in the comments. We answer them whether or not there is a job in it.

Questions are free. 314-270-1233

One finish top to bottom is not a rule, and new alongside existing does not have to look pieced together.

A light perimeter, an island in a darker color, and hardware chosen to carry both. It reads as a design decision because it was one.

Same boxes. Same layout.

Send us a photo of yours and we will talk through the options. 314-270-1233

Three kitchens, three different houses. In all three the boxes and the layout stayed where they were.

That is usually the first question worth answering. Not which construction method, but what is actually bothering you about the room.

Sometimes the answer is the doors. Sometimes it is the storage. Sometimes it is one run of cabinets and nothing else.

What would you change first? Tell us. 314-270-1233

Honey oak uppers, a good island, and a room that had not been touched in a long time.

We started with what to keep. The layout stayed. The island stayed. The pendants stayed. What changed was every surface you actually look at.

You do not need to know whether you want refacing or replacing before the first conversation. You need to know what you want to keep.

Start with what you would keep, then send us a few photos. 314-270-1233

Refacing does not automatically mean new countertops, and new countertops do not automatically mean refacing.

Decide based on the finished kitchen you want, not on a package somebody handed you. Plenty of kitchens keep the counters and only the cabinetry changes.

This one kept what was working.

This is what a day in the middle looks like. Counters going in, fronts already hung, and somebody on their knees making a seam disappear.

Dave and Stephanie run a small company out of Crestwood. When you put five figures into your kitchen you should know who is responsible after you say yes.

The large photo is the finished room. The other two are how it got there.

People call ready to move a wall. Then we stand in the kitchen and the sink is where it should be, the range is where it should be, and the room works.

What is actually wrong is the color of the doors and a run of cabinets that look tired next to newer appliances. That is a much smaller job than the one they were bracing for.

Sometimes it goes the other way and we say replace. Either way you should hear it before you start spending.

Send us a few photos and we will give you a straight read. 314-270-1233

People assume refacing is all or nothing. Perimeter cabinets and island, one finish, done.

It does not have to be. The island can be looked at on its own. Different color, different material, rebuilt entirely if that is what the room needs.

Refacing the cabinets you like does not mean keeping an island you do not.

Three separate projects, three separate houses, no two finishes alike.

Door style, color, hardware and trim are decisions you make one at a time. That is where the difference between new doors and a transformed kitchen actually lives.

These are not one kitchen at three stages. They are three different homes around St. Louis.

Which one is closest to yours? Send us a photo. 314-270-1233
