The finished details get all the attention, but there’s a whole lot of work that happens before we ever get there. 👏

Framing. Drywall. Tape and texture. Prep work. Measurements. And plenty of stages that most people will never think about once the cabinets, flooring and fixtures start going in.

This may not be the part of a custom home that ends up on the inspiration board, but good workmanship matters here too.

Because quality isn’t something you add at the end of a build. It has to be there all the way through.

We're proud to call Texas home, but one of the best things about East Texas is that every community has a personality of its own.

So we want to know...
What town do you call home and what's something about it the rest of us should know?

Maybe it's the little restaurant everybody knows to order from, a local tradition, the prettiest backroad, a festival you never miss, the best place for breakfast, or just something that makes your community feel like home.

Cabinets. Cabinets. And... more cabinets. 😂
Safe to say, storage shouldn't be much of a problem around here. At least that’s the plan!

The lake house renovation is getting to that stage where some of the details we've been waiting on are finally starting to make their way in, and there are a LOT of cabinets being assembled and installed.

Kitchens get most of the attention, but good storage throughout a home can completely change how the space functions day to day.

So we're curious: if you could add more storage to ONE room in your house right now, where would it be?

Kitchen? Pantry? Laundry room? Primary closet? Bathroom? Somewhere else?

It’s easy to fall in love with a floor plan online, but before you decide it’s the one, take a look at the land where you plan to build it.

The property is part of the plan.

Where the home sits, which direction it faces, how you’ll access the property, how water moves across the land, existing trees and even the views you want to capture can all play a role in how your home comes together.

That doesn’t mean you can’t save the floor plans you love, absolutely do! They’re a great way to start identifying the layouts, features and styles you’re drawn to.

Just remember, the best plan isn’t only one that looks good on paper. It should make sense for your property, your priorities and the way you want to live there.

This is the part everyone waits for. 🏡✨

We talk a lot about what happens during a build, framing, materials, planning, selections and all those decisions that don’t look very exciting while they’re happening.
And then eventually… it all comes together.

The windows become the view.
The floor plan becomes the way you move through your home.

The selections become the details that make it feel like yours.
Every finished home starts with a whole lot of decisions made long before it looks like this.

And seeing those decisions come together never gets old.

Some of the best upgrades in a custom home are the ones you’ll never see when it’s finished. 👀

See that green sheathing around the door? That’s ZIP System® sheathing, and it’s an upgrade we really like to talk through with our clients.

The system combines structural sheathing with an integrated weather-resistive barrier, while the seams and openings are sealed with ZIP System tape and flashing to help create a continuous barrier around the home.

Is it the exciting part of building that you’ll show everyone when the house is finished? Probably not. 😂

But decisions like this, what goes behind the siding, drywall and pretty finishes, matter too.

If you’re planning a custom home, don’t be afraid to ask your builder about the things you won’t see when it’s done. Those conversations are part of building well.

Building a custom home comes with a LOT of questions. And that's exactly how it should be. 🏡

Where should this go? What happens next? Is this the right choice? Can we change that? What do we need to decide now and what can wait?

If you've never built before, you aren't expected to know the construction process before you start.

That's our job.

Your job is to tell us what matters to you, ask the questions, and be part of the decisions that turn a set of plans into your home.

We build houses every day. Most of our clients don't, and we don't expect them to.
