Grateful for the break in heat this week. I was able to get a few jobs done in Old Trail.
The HOA crew install spring mulch 2x this yr. (I was told because 1st application was wrong color.)
So the crew just added to the existing mulch that has been piling up for years.
I was asked to remove 10" of it and relocate to a new bed next to recently installed fence. Then I edged and reapplied 3" to original bed along the border of the home.

A little late to the party this year, but the Japanese beetle and June bugs are here to eat all they can. Unfortunately Japanese beetles are attracted to aroma and sweet tasting foliage.
Same with the June bugs, but they also look for soft organic material, gardens, beds, etc to lay their lava of the unwanted grubs.
Good luck this year's drought conditions and now the unwanted insects have been challenging for many of us.

Japanese beetles aren’t picky, but they have favorites: roses, grapes, raspberries, cherry and plum trees, lindens, crape myrtle, and beans, among others.

The ice this winter caused significant damage, leading me to perform a deep pruning on most of the shrubs. Sadly, all the old boxwoods were damaged. Recent rainfall and watering by the homeowner, they are now recovering. I added mulch to the beds and now hope for more rainfall and cooler temperatures to aid in their continued recovery.

It is important to note that all newly planted vegetation, including plants, shrubs, and trees, require a thorough soaking once a week until the current drought conditions improve. The light rainfall we are experiencing is insufficient to pe*****te to the root systems of these plants, which are currently experiencing planter shock. As a result, it is essential that we maintain a regular watering schedule to prevent further stressing these plants.

Mowing in the heat and drought conditions has not been a pleasant task for any of us, but it is crucial to prevent clumps of clippings from accumulating on the lawn. This can lead to the suffocation of the grass and the development of mold and other fungal growths. Raising the height of the deck and mowing again next week is a recommended approach.

If you have any new plants, shrubs, or trees planted in the last year, they could use a good deep soaking. So could any newly seeded lawns.
We are under severe drought conditions, and remember that we ended last year with a 9-inch deficit.

Unfortunately it's hatching season for the spotted lanternflies.
The juveniles don't look anything like the adults. If you see them let's do our part and eliminate as many as we can.
