It's getting towards the last couple cuttings of the season. If you haven't already, it's time to slowly lower your mower height.

We recommend lowering it to 2 to 2 1/2 in high before winter. This makes it less likely for animals to burrow in the winter and reduces snow mold in the spring next year.

Fall is here, the temperatures have been falling, but the rain does not seem to be following suit.

We noticed a lot of lawns are starting to dry out. Fall is recovery time for lawns, if we do not get much rain, it is very hard for the lawn to do so. It doesn't look like we're going to get much over the next couple weeks, so anything you can do to deeply irrigate the lawn once is going to help a lot. You want to water with an oscillating sprinkler one to one and a half hours per zone.

With all the rain we received a few weeks ago, we are starting to see a lot of dollar spot in lawns. This is the fungal disease that starts off as small spots and eventually grows through the lawn if the conditions are right. Remember, if you are watering your lawn, try to do it in the very early morning, 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., deeper and less frequent watering is preferred. This reduces the chance for fungal infections to take hold.
