This is the first time this year that we have not had a thunderstorm come through providing ample rain. Also, the picture shows that this is very common around tree bases at the beginning of fall, especially when we do not get much precipitation.
The trees are sucking up any residual water in the soil, causing the grass stress out more than normal. In order to prevent this, put the sprinkler under the canopy of the tree and give it a good deep soaking. This will give the turf the necessary water to revive itself and look better in these areas.
