🔧💧 Plumber Appreciation Week: A Press Above the Rest! 💧🔧

At First Response, we spend our days helping homeowners recover from water damage, so we know just how important quality plumbing work really is. That’s why we’re taking a moment to recognize the plumbers who help keep homes and businesses protected every day.

This week, we’re spotlighting a copper press fitting tool, a game-changing piece of equipment that has transformed the way many plumbing repairs and installations are completed.

Why are copper press fittings so popular?

✅ Fast, efficient installations with no soldering required
✅ Creates strong, reliable, leak-resistant connections
✅ Reduces installation time compared to traditional sweating methods
✅ Safer because there is no open flame needed
✅ Ideal for repairs in occupied homes and commercial buildings

When properly installed, press-fit copper systems provide durable, long-lasting performance while helping plumbers work more efficiently and safely.

As a water mitigation company, we appreciate the professionals who take pride in doing the job right the first time. Every secure fitting and every quality repair helps prevent the leaks and water losses we get called in to clean up.

A huge thank you to all the plumbers out there for your hard work, craftsmanship, and dedication to protecting homes and businesses. We appreciate everything you do! 👏🔧💙

"I had lived in my house with relatively no issues until Dec 13, 2025. That night, while I was out, the water filter in my refrigerator broke pouring a steady stream of water into the refrigerator and out onto the floor in my kitchen, living room, hallway, closets, bathroom and office...basically nearly my entire home.

I saw this was not going to be something I could repair....my floors were hooved up and sunken in in places....so I called my insurance agent. They told me to call someone and recommended 1st Response. I called afterhours and Steve came out the next morning. He quickly assessed the severity of the damage and called in a crew.

I was overwhelmed and went out on my sunporch and let them do what needed to be done. Within a few hours they had packed up the contents of my kitchen, living room & closets and my appliances, lower kitchen cabinets and living room furniture to be put in storage and started 'chasing the water damage' by ripping up flooring. They brought in heaters, blowers & dehumidifiers to dry up water and putting down a microbial solution to stop any mold from growing. They tested for asbestos in the flooring and scheduled remediation for that. They worked with my insurance adjuster to ensure the very best outcome for me.

When the reconstruction started they were considerate of my schedule and communicated well. The work they have done is incredible. They treated my house like their own in making sure nothing was left undone. In many ways my house is in better shape than it was before the water damage.

Just when I thought it couldn't get any better they proved me wrong. They brought back all my cabinets, countertops, appliances, living room furniture and box after box of contents. They cleaned my house, hooked up appliances, placed my furniture where I wanted it, unpacked all the boxes and put things back into cabinets & closets. They even hung all my wall decor that had been taken down during the demo & rebuild.

They guided me through the various stages of working with my insurance company (Josh with State Farm) who was also outstanding and my bank City National for holding the insurance company payouts in a separate account and issuing checks as invoices were provided.

All of this was done with compassion, kindness and a smile.....not to mention highly skilled workmanship.

I am forever grateful to Steve, Barb, John, Mike, Mikey, Amanda, Rayce and many others from 1st Response. They are truly a 1st Class business."

Thank you for trusting First Response Restoration during such a challenging time. Stories like these are why we do what we do.

Why Proper Deck Ledger Flashing Matters

A deck is only as strong as the connection to your home. One of the most common causes of deck failures isn’t the framing—it’s water intrusion behind the ledger board.

This illustration shows the key components of a properly installed deck ledger assembly:

• Housewrap or felt paper drainage plane
• Flashing tape integrated with the weather barrier
• Bent metal flashing to direct water away from the home
• Pressure-treated ledger board fastened with structural screws
• Simpson Strong-Tie DTT2Z tension tie for lateral load resistance
• Metal drip edge flashing to shed water away from the wall assembly

When flashing is installed correctly, water is directed away from the structure instead of becoming trapped behind the ledger where it can cause hidden rot, mold, and structural damage.

If your deck is attached directly to your home and you’re unsure how it was flashed, it may be worth a closer look. Many water damage issues remain hidden for years before becoming visible.

Clogged, leaking, and overflowing gutters can cause much bigger problems than most homeowners realize.

When gutters stop draining properly, rainwater has nowhere to go except down the sides of the home and around the foundation. Over time, this can lead to foundation cracking, basement and crawlspace water intrusion, mold growth, wood rot, damaged insulation, erosion, and interior water damage.

A small gutter problem today can turn into a major restoration project later. Keeping gutters clean and leak-free is one of the simplest ways to protect your home from costly water damage.

If you notice overflowing gutters, standing water, musty smells in the crawlspace, or moisture in the basement, don’t ignore it. Water always finds a way.

Seeing signs of water damage around your home? Call First Response Restoration. Our team is ready 24/7 to help protect your home and restore the damage before it spreads.
