There are many types of cisterns. As most are not self-cleaning, it is a good idea to clean your cistern:
• at least once a year sludge and sediment build-up needs to be cleaned out, more if water looks, smells or tastes different.
• if any contaminants are detected inside the system (e.g., surface water from overland flooding, rodents).
• after installation and sediment needs to be removed from the bottom of the tank.

This commercial water loss affected the entire building. It was subjected to a fire sprinkler break for several hours. Rule one in a water loss is to remove the standing water. Pinhole leaks are extremely small. Most often less than 1/8" wide, but can cause a BIG IMPACT. They are typically caused by corrosion and develop over time, however this can also be a sign of systematic plumbing failure.

Moisture mapping gives us the ability to to detect moisture invisible to the naked eye. SERVPRO of Culver City / Baldwin Hills uses a variety of equipment to perform this work. Some moisture readers have prongs at the end to physically pe*****te the material and take the reading, while others send a deep signal into the material and can detect moisture through paint, drywall, and other coverings. These readings reflect how saturated the affected material and follow up readings are taken throughout the dry out process to ensure proper drying.

Sometimes a loss will continue to affect a property even after the call comes in and our project managers and technicians arrive onsite. Once the water stopped falling we were able to remediate the affected material: removing the collapsed ceiling tiles and disturbed insulation, and extract the remaining standing water.
