โ๏ธ **THIS HEAT IS HARD ON YOUR AC!** ๐ฅต
When temperatures stay this high for days at a time, your air conditioner is working overtime. A few simple things can help take some of the strain off your system and hopefully prevent a breakdown when you need it most.
โ
**Change your air filter** โ A dirty filter restricts airflow and makes your system work harder.
๐ฆ **Wash off your outdoor unit** โ Dirt, grass clippings and debris can build up on the coils and restrict airflow. Gently rinse the outside of the unit with a garden hose to help keep it clean.
๐ก๏ธ **Be realistic with the thermostat** โ On extremely hot days, your AC may run for long periods of time. Constantly lowering the thermostat won't make the house cool fasterโit just asks the system to keep running.
โ๏ธ **Keep the heat outside** โ Close blinds and curtains, especially on windows getting direct afternoon sun.
๐ฟ **Give your outdoor unit room to breathe** โ Keep weeds, grass, shrubs and other debris cleared away from it.
๐ง **Don't wait for extreme weather to schedule maintenance!**
Spring and fall are the best times for routine AC maintenance. During prolonged extreme heat, HVAC companies may have to prioritize **no-cooling emergency calls**, which can make routine maintenance harder to schedule.
And remember: **an AC running for long periods during extreme heat doesn't automatically mean something is wrong.** It's working against outdoor temperatures, attic heat, sunlight and humidity to keep your home comfortable.
A little prevention now can go a long way toward helping your AC survive an Oklahoma summer. โ๏ธโ๏ธ
If your system **isn't cooling, is blowing warm air, is freezing up, or something just doesn't seem right**, give AC Works a call.
