Installing a new 25-foot industrial-strength, American-made flagpole today! 🇺🇸💪

The pole went up smoothly, but the real MVP was my husband’s genius idea to set up our tent for some much-needed shade. ☀️⛺

This image stopped me in my tracks today!

A young mother lying beside a grave with her baby nearby is a powerful reminder of the cost of freedom.
While we enjoy the simple blessings of everyday life, we remember those who never got the chance.

Most of them were barely more than boys. They gave up not just their lives, but all the future moments they would never know: marriages, children, grandchildren, and quiet years of growing old.

I read today what Ronald Reagan said and I think it depicts such a moment to ponder on today.

"It is, in a way, an odd thing to honor those who died in defense of our country, in defense of us, in wars far away. The imagination plays a trick. We see these soldiers in our mind as old and wise. We see them as something like the Founding Fathers, grave and gray haired. But most of them were boys when they died, and they gave up two lives. The one they were living and the one they would have lived. When they died, they gave up their chance to be husbands and fathers and grandfathers. They gave up their chance to be revered old men.

They gave up everything for our country, for us. And all we can do is remember."

Today we honor their sacrifice and thank every Gold Star family who carries that loss so we can hold our loved ones close.

Long haul from Texas behind us, and now we’re on the homestretch. Heading back to our beautiful Black Hills!

The miles have flown by with those massive American flags catching my eye along the way: whipping proudly over open plains, small towns, and now starting to feel the pull of home against those rugged pines and rolling hills. Every one of them reminds me just how blessed we are to live where we live.

This place isn’t just scenery—it’s crisp mountain air, endless skies, that unbreakable heartland spirit, and the quiet freedom that makes coming home feel like the best part of any trip. Grateful for safe travels, for the open road, and most of all, for calling these hills home. Can’t wait to unpack, breathe it in, and fly our own flag a little higher.

Driving around southern Texas, beyond just San Antonio, it’s impossible not to notice those massive flagpoles popping up everywhere! 🇺🇸
