This customer bought a beautiful house with a very large deck attached to the back. Unfortunately, the deck has several places that have needed shoring up or repairing. There are several concerns and we are tackling them one at a time. The post here is not attached to the house, nor is it attached to the ground. You can see that somebody painted the house while the post was crooked.
I pushed on the handrail and the post until I got it vertical and then held it in place with a screwdriver and a block of wood. I secured a 4 x 4 onto the porch with a steel bracket and wedged in a spacer which I also secured to the porch with a steel bracket. Then I secured everything to itself and added some 1x6s to hide the unattractive contraption that I built. It’s incredibly sturdy now!
