More than just shingles. Building complete systems. 🔨🏠

Some roofs are a quick swap; others require solving a puzzle. On this recent project on Bella Vista Drive in Casa Linda Estates (75218), the job went far beyond standard tear-off and replacement.

From 12/12 pitch sections and multiple hips to hidden structural damage, we rebuilt this East Dallas property from the frame up.

How we elevated this complete exterior system:
🛠️ Structural Garage Rebuild: After pulling off extra hidden layers of old shingles, we discovered and replaced compromised rafters and decking on the detached garage before laying down a single new shingle.

Feeling a bit nostalgic today. Attended the Not So Mini Trade Show and couldn't help but remember the excitement of rushing to the Owens Corning booth, hoping to find a delightful Pink Panther plush for my boys. Now, all I leave with is a hat to shield my bald head. 🤷‍♂️

Meet Jim Phillips, the newest member of the Bert Roofing team serving North Dallas and the 75248 area.

Jim has lived in 75248 for 24 years and has known Bert Roofing for about 30 years. Long before joining our team, he was a customer. We’ve replaced roofs on three of Jim’s homes over the years, as well as his brother’s home.

Jim brings an unusual combination of experience to roofing. He has been a CPA since 1987, spent decades in corporate accounting, and later owned and operated a home repair business.

His approach fits ours well: inspect the roof, explain what he finds, and recommend what actually makes sense. Sometimes that means a new roof. Sometimes a repair is the better answer.

Most importantly, 75248 isn’t simply Jim’s sales territory. It’s his neighborhood.

Uhg!

It just keeps getting hotter in the 7 day forecast! Highs peak at 105 on Tuesday, but thankfully winds will come down lessening the fire threat ever so slightly. By the end of the week, the pattern might break enough to allow a small storm chance. But it is a very small one!

Big Boy by the pool made this Richardson roof replacement a little more memorable.

The technical side was just as interesting. An attic inspection confirmed older 1×8 plank decking, so we overlaid the roof with 1/2-inch OSB to create a better nailing surface before installing GAF ArmorShield II Class 4 impact-resistant shingles.

Not every roofing job is a simple one-day tear-off. We recently wrapped up a major new construction and extensive renovation project in Casa Linda Estates (75218), near El Campo and Hermosa.

On a project of this scale, roofing happens in phases. We initially "dried in" the structure months ago using synthetic underlayment and ice & water shield to keep the framing protected through Dallas weather. Once the additions were framed and exterior walls rebuilt, we returned to install the final, beautiful roofing system.
