As urban growth strains municipal storm systems, stormwater management is shifting toward source-point control using "Blue Roofs" on low-sloped buildings to store water right where it falls. Serving as an alternative to ground-level storage vaults—especially on tight, high-water-table, or lot-line-to-lot-line sites—these systems are typically integrated into vegetated roofs or paver amenities.

They operate through either stormwater retention, which captures and reuses water on-site through evapotranspiration, or stormwater detention, which temporarily holds rainfall to release it at a controlled rate and prevent municipal overflows.

Traditional waterproofing and concrete protection systems need three to seven days to cure before they can take foot or vehicular traffic. A Siplast Terapro system can be applied and completed within a single eight-hour day.

At The Sheffield Condominium, Tribute Restoration completed the concrete and dunnage repairs the roof needed before any waterproofing went down, and then installed a Siplast PMMA roof system engineered for weather resistance and long-term durability.

It’s Technical Tuesday and we are discussing details for penetrations with our Parapro Flashing Membrane installed in three steps: a liquid-applied PMMA base coat, polyester fleece embedded while that base is still wet, and a finish coat over the top. What cures is one monolithic, reinforced membrane with no seam, whether at a parapet, a change in plane, or a cluster of pipe penetrations.

Performance then rests on the durability of the material and the integrity of the substrate rather than on a seam.

Every year we host educational trips to our R&D Lab, located in the RISE Facility in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, the same facility where we conduct elongation and recovery testing for our SBS Modified Bitumen products. This week we kick off our fall series with customers from all over North America to tour our facilities and with hands-on demonstrations using SBS samples and liquid-applied resins.
