The first photos is of the first 2 tile meshes installed by the contractor. The second photo shows the wide grout lines on the outer edges of the mesh. The third photo is the re-installed tile done correctly by my employee.
I was recently held hostage by a threatening lien for payment. Although the work was poorly installed I had no choice but to make the payment. Do not use this tile contractor. The repair cast me over $600. As a contractor in business for over 30 years I have never heard so many excuses. His main excuse is that the tiled mesh was incorrect, but you can clearly see the thick grout lines on the outside edges of the mesh. I asked him to meet me half way. His reply via email?
"Look at the first photo you attached. You can see the materials attached to the mesh. Now look at grout joints for that particular piece. You will see some tight joints and you will see a joint that is wider than some of the other grout joints. Now, as we addressed the last time we were at the house, look at the third photo you attached. The finished product has all of the medallions lined up even. How the grout joints fall is beyond the layers control. If he would have pulled it down as you suggested, the medallions would not have lined up. Perhaps your client went back to the Tile Shop and they let her hand pick the ones that she wanted. For $500.00, I would do the same thing. All that needed to be replaced if she could not live with the wide joint is last piece on the right. The rest of the materials there is not a problem. So again, if you or the client decided to replace the entire splash, that is your choice. After our initial discussion, I was never contacted again about replacing any pieces of the backsplash.
Deduct $150.00 from the invoice, and I will OK the deduction without filing a lien. But that is all I am willing to allow. I refuse to be responsible for another vendors product. I need to get this paid by the end of the week Luke, because my lien date is coming up next week. This has now been right at 80 days without resolution"
Your business is deeply appreciated,
