👻 Is your house haunted… or is it wildlife?

Scratching at dawn? Probably squirrels 🐿️
Scurrying in the walls at night? Mice 🐭
Thumping in the attic? Could be a raccoon 🦝
Fluttering by the eaves? Bats 🦇

As Connecticut cools down, critters go looking for a warm place to spend the winter. Your attic is at the top of their list.

👇 What's the spookiest sound YOUR house makes? Tell us in the comments, and tag a friend who swears their house is haunted.

Scribner Pest & Wildlife Control is local and family-owned, serving Fairfield & Litchfield Counties. We find how they got in, get them out, and seal it up for good.

Happy Halloween from the Scribner Pest & Wildlife Control family 🎃

These are the only critters we like to see around the house in October.

The real ones are moving in right now. As nights get colder, mice, squirrels, raccoons and bats look for warm attics and walls. Common signs:

Scratching in the walls or ceiling at night

Droppings in the garage, basement or attic

Chewed vent screens or soffits

Hear something that goes bump in the night? Call or message us for a wildlife inspection. We're a local family business serving Fairfield and Litchfield Counties.

👇 Comment with the best costume and we'll pick a favorite on Friday.

Rodents don’t need an open door—just a small opening.
A mouse can squeeze through a gap about the width of a pencil. That makes those little openings around pipes, doors, and foundations worth a closer look!

A few prevention steps can make your home less inviting:

Check for openings inside and outside your home, especially around utility lines and doors.

Seal gaps with appropriate rodent-resistant materials, such as metal mesh or metal flashing.

Store pantry items, pet food, and birdseed in sturdy, tightly closed containers.

Keep garbage covered and remove clutter that gives rodents places to hide.

Important cleanup reminder: Never sweep or vacuum dry rodent droppings or nesting material. This can put contaminated particles into the air. Follow CDC guidance for safe cleanup.

Prevention starts with knowing where to look.

Not the kind of “mouse trap catch” anyone expects. 🐍
Rodent activity can attract snakes into homes—especially through basements, garages, crawlspaces, and gaps around the foundation.

Mouse traps don’t just catch mice!
Sometimes, they catch a much bigger problem.

These large snake captures happened inside local homes after rodent activity brought them indoors.
Snakes follow food. If mice are getting into your basement, garage, crawlspace, or home, snakes may follow the same paths.
If you find a snake in your home:
• Keep everyone, including pets, at a safe distance
• Do not attempt to grab, corner, or identify it yourself
• Call a licensed wildlife professional for safe removal
At Scribner Pest & Wildlife Control, we remove the snake, address the rodent problem, and inspect for the entry points that allowed wildlife inside.
📞 Call us for fast, professional snake and wildlife removal in Newtown and nearby towns.

Heat ON. AC OFF. Basement smells… weird? 👃🍂
5 common reasons for that fall basement smell:
1️⃣ Dry drain traps = sewer gas. Pour water down every drain.
2️⃣ Musty smell = mold or mildew. Run a dehumidifier.
3️⃣ Burning dust = furnace start-up. Should go away in a few days.
4️⃣ Sweet, rotten smell = possibly a dead mouse in a wall 🐭
5️⃣ Sharp ammonia smell = rodent or wildlife urine
Refilled the drains and it still stinks? Let us take a look. We find the source and seal the entry points.
