Welding table with welders and a few of the wood working tools lined up in their new home. Had a really good day organizing in the shop. Still a long way to go, and way to much stuff in there. The shop still needs a ton of organizing! Need more storage for tools and such. So going to continue org process but will begin making upper cabinets for shop as I go. Looking forward to building things again!

Well it’s been a long time coming!! In October 2022 I started the drywall and painting in the new shop. Today one year and three months later it’s done. Painted the final section yesterday and today! I made my goal of being done by my birthday. Next is finishing touches, moving things into their final planned location and organizing as I go! Looking forward to actually doing some woodworking and some welding projects!!!

Spent some time this morning looking over the shop build posts. Started the actual build September 2021 once the building materials showed up. A couple big gaps in progress in 2022 and 2023. 2022 was just filled with other more important projects. 2023 was the year from hell!! Hospitalized for 8 days at the end of February, Surgery in June, the another hospital stay in September. I am hoping that whole issue is done for 2024 but that has yet to be proven. Finally back hard at work on the inside of the shop. Still looking good for a February 7th Completion date of all drywall, painting and electrical. There are future projects like a furnace and air compressor room addition and Butternut cabinets purpose build for the shop organization. Time will tell and retirement is still a couple years out but we are getting there!!!

Might not look a lot different then the last picture but the drywall taping is first and second coated. Have to wait for it to dry before sanding. That will have to wait till next weekend. This weekend will be dry time with heat on. Sadly this next week it will be cold, and I have to be at work. So without the furnace installed the heat will be off all week. Time will tell, still hoping to be done and painted before my birthday. It will be tight. Stay tuned!!!

Not a great photo, the shop is still a mess. Today I start the final taping, sanding, texturing and painting project in the shop. The dry wall is hung. The only exception is the area above and below the power panel. That area will receive covers in case electrical lines need to be added. Not sure when this will be finished but I’m hoping by my birthday. Time will tell.

Well project sort and stack wood is well underway. The rack is filling up so fast. I found this hoard of butternut boards. I’m thinking my cabinet builds for inside the shop will be butternut 😀 these are mostly 6 inch wide and 8ft plus long. A few wider boards as well. If memory serves me well this wood was acquired from a good friend Steve Berguetski a while back. In the wood I picked up from him there is also a slab cut cherry tree that I have every slab of. It has a wonderful bend from the original tree I’m thinking a curved table top for that😀
Better get back to work there is a lot more wood to bring in. Including several 5 inch thick black walnut boards. I have all this and still I look at wood ads on the marketplace 😂

Another day out in the shop. I was able to get long lumber stacked in rack. Sadly it’s not really big enough for my lumber hoard 😀. Decided it was time to use up some hoarded pieces and made the bottom of the shorts rack. This part is 4ft deep, I have a bunch of shorts laying around so this will help with my clutter issues. Not sure what I have left in oxboard to make the top part. I have 1 and 1/2 sheets of 1/2 so hopefully that’s enough to make a 2 or 3 ft deep section. Making progress day by day! Winter break is coming fast so hoping to make a bunch more progress!!

Good day in the shop today. Did a tuneup on the wife’s Ford Edge. Took 4 hours but it went well.
Then put all the screws in the wood rack. Started loading in the wood that’s in the shop. Lots of sorting as this wood was last out of the loft at old shop. Dimensional lumber on top no stickers. Next shelf is hard maple, that of course is stickered. Tomorrow I get to move 15 26 plus inch wide Oak boards. That will be a challenge.
Great progress for sure but a long way to go. I even remember to put the baseboard in along that wall😀

Good weekend working on the new shop. Was able to get the new lumber storage rack up. Not completely done as I need to get more ledger lock screws to finish. It’s made of salvaged 2x6 LVL lumber. Also was able to get two light fixtures up in that area. I’ll finish it up and start loading it up next weekend. But that will have to wait a bit as I have to do a tuneup on my lovely wife’s car first. Progress is good!
