Thrive Design beautiful, functional, and resilient landscapes Thrive Design works with clients who desire a garden that is more than simply beautiful on the surface.

In the design process we consider what is below the soil, the way that plants interact and support one another, as well as the local ecosystem to create beautiful, functional landscapes for both humans and nature to thrive. In doing so, we evoke a sense of place, while celebrating subtle beauty to develop through time and seasons. Over the years we've cultivated a resilient pallet of plants that a

re native to the region, thrive in diverse conditions while being aesthetically beautiful. We focus on restoring one patch of land at a time. By taking this approach, each green space is given the opportunity to become part of a larger network. It also provides needed ecosystem services, creating islands of habitat; connections, and resting points for wildlife.

"The researchers found that the only yards that were able to produce enough chickadees to sustain a stable population were those with a plant composition made up of more than 70 percent of native plants. Because more than 90 percent of herbivorous insects will only eat one or a few native plants, the use of these plants in landscaping is essential to ensure breeding birds have enough insect prey to eat."

Insect-eating birds that depend on high-calorie, high-protein cuisine (namely caterpillars and spiders) to feed their young are finding the menu severely lacking in backyards landscaped with even a small proportion of nonnative plants, according to a new study from SCBI.

Pollinators—the wildlife that shuffle pollen between flowers—are being decimated. But they may still thrive with enough help from urban humans.
