We had a great time at the Quad Cities Builders & Remodelers Association Build My Future event! We were able to talk to highschool age kids and show them a small part of what our job looks like! There was over 1,200 kids at this event and a lot of enthusiasm for the trades!

Women in Construction Week Spotlight: Anna Rivera 🔧👷‍♀️

Anna's journey into the plumbing trade started with a simple goal: finding a better work-life balance for herself and her family. While working 100+ hours a week during the busy spring and fall seasons for a local agriculture company, she realized she wanted a career that would still allow her to provide for her kids while also spending more time at home.

After watching a close family member become a union plumber, Anna became curious about the hands-on career path and decided to apply for the Local 25 apprenticeship program herself. Today, she works as a remodel plumber with Petersen Plumbing & Heating. One of her favorite parts of the job is seeing the look on customers’ faces when a project is finished and their home is back in order.

Like many working parents, Anna says balancing work and life at home can be challenging — especially with three kids, including a 6-month-old. “I’m lucky to have a great village, along with an understanding and supportive employer,” she said.

Her advice for women entering the trades? Don’t give up! Early in her apprenticeship, Anna admits many doubts crossed her mind, but she kept pushing forward — and today she’s proud to be building a better life for her family.
