We had a great last day at SEBC on Friday! Thank you to all our members who represent the VBIA on the Florida Home Builders Association Membership Board and Executive Board and to those members who come to the meetings to stay in touch with the happenings at a State level.

SEBC day 2 was a busy one. FHBA had many speakers including Melanie Griffin, Secretary of DBPR, who was awarded the Eagle Award. We were also honored to be a part of presenting the Champion of Housing Awards to 4 State legislators. VBIA Life Director Shelly Stewart with Southern Title represented the VBIA on the state Government Affairs Committee and VBIA Life Director Frank Severino with Budd Severino Advanced Home Exteriors, Inc. representing the VBIA on the FHB PAC Committee. Also had the pleasure to meet with NAHB Second Vice Chair Gary Campbell.

Not all government revenue is the same.

One of the biggest misconceptions in discussions about growth is that every dollar collected by local government can be used for anything.

That's simply not how it works.

Different revenue sources are collected for different purposes.

For example:
• Impact fees are intended to help fund additional public facility capacity needed to serve new growth.
• Building permit fees help cover the cost of reviewing plans, issuing permits, and conducting inspections.
• Utility revenue supports the operation, maintenance, and expansion of water and sewer systems.
• Property taxes help fund many of the day-to-day services communities rely on, including public safety, parks, libraries, and other local government functions.

Understanding where public revenue comes from—and what it is intended to fund—helps all of us have more informed conversations about housing, infrastructure, and the future of our communities.

Good decisions begin with good information.
