It has been a tough year for our business. There have been more than usual summer rains. We have worked on killing the w**ds and have had trouble areas during the stressful summer months, creating some browning and thinning in the grass. After investing In some high-quality slow-release fertilizer, I can see my lawns shining after the summer stresses. My yards are standing out. Thank you for your patience and confidence in my program. In the end, we stand out and shine. Happy Holidays!

Just some info

A friendly reminder and warning for those of you with kids and dogs - It is September and the start of football season, but it is also the time of year when copperheads are born.
The baby snakes are born with venom and ready to defend themselves. The mama snake generally gives birth to about 8 - 10 of these critters, so if you find one there are others around. The babies will keep those greenish/yellow tips on their tails for about a year. These snakes are not generally aggressive but will bite if you are unfortunate enough to touch or step on one. Do not reach under bushes, around rocks, or even flower pots without looking first. They like damp places so beware, even under children's toys and dog dishes!

FRONT YARD VEGETABLE GARDENS LEGAL IN FLORIDA

Front yard vegetable gardens are a growing trend. And they are now legal!

A new law in Florida states that local governments cannot ban homeowners from growing fruits and vegetables in their own lawns. The law states "Any local ordinance or regulation regarding vegetable gardens on residential properties is void and unenforceable.” The new law went into effect July , 2019. This is good news for many Florida residents who would like to grow vegetables for their own consumption but have been prohibited by local ordinances or HOAs. This is happening all over our country as well as in other countries.

A couple from Miami was facing excessive charges from their HOA because of a front yard vegetable garden. They fought through the legal red tape for 6 years to gain this right that everyone in Florida will now benefit from. This supports every homeowner’s property right to grow their own food wherever they want on their own property. Even the front lawn. Gardens are a great way to help feed your family healthy food and use composted waste.

Edible landscaping is now a trend. A well maintained vegetable garden is going to look beautiful. You may not have considered that a lot of vegetables are actually really good looking. Now you have no excuse for not growing those tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant!
Tips for your front yard gardens…
1. Keep your plants in good shape and keep them looking good. Get rid of sickly plants.
2. Be friendly to your neighbors. They won’t complain if they like you. Be ready to explain to them the value of growing your own produce.
3. Be generous and share your bounty. Everyone loves a fresh and free tomato.
4. Don’t leave your equipment and tools laying around. That can be ugly.
5. Get creative with containers. These could be plants to move around and fill in empty spots as they occur.
6. You must learn to plan for all seasons. We have year-round vegetable gardens here in Florida. You will have to learn how to plant in them.
7. Scatter flowers among your vegetables. It’s great camouflage and some of them even repel insects.

Something to think about! The asian cycad scale has taken over as well. I thought I would share this read as I did not know they were toxic.

Sago palms are popular in this area and all parts of it are considered poisonous, with the seeds/nuts being the most toxic. The plant's primary toxin is cycasin, which causes severe liver failure in dogs. Ingestion promotes drooling, lack of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, abnormal fluid accumulation in the abdomen, abdominal pain, jaundice, and tarry stools. Other symptoms include weakness, ataxia, seizures, and liver failure.

Seek veterinary care immediately if there is suspected ingestion. We are open 24/7/365 if you or your pet ever need us: (843) 614-8387.
