🍂⛈️ FALL STORM SEASON IS HERE — HOMEOWNERS, PLEASE READ! ⛈️🍂
As we head into another fall storm season, we want to share an important reminder with our friends and neighbors throughout East Tennessee.
Not every roofing contractor knocking on your door has your best interests at heart.
Unfortunately, severe weather often attracts storm-chasing roofing companies looking to take advantage of homeowners who may be worried about damage to their homes.
We’re not saying every out-of-town contractor is dishonest. But we ARE saying you should do your homework before trusting anyone with one of the biggest investments in your home.
🚩 WATCH FOR THESE RED FLAGS:
❌ Unsolicited door knockers. If you didn’t call them, you are under no obligation to let them inspect your roof. It’s perfectly fine to say, “No, thank you.”
❌ Pressure to sign paperwork immediately. NEVER sign anything you don’t fully understand. Some documents may authorize work, create financial obligations, or affect your rights regarding an insurance claim.
❌ Promises of a “free roof” through insurance. Be cautious of anyone promising to get your insurance company to pay for a roof before your claim has even been evaluated.
❌ Contractors who can’t provide a verifiable local business history. Ask where they’re based, how long they’ve been operating, and whether they’ll be around if problems arise.
❌ Requests for large upfront payments. Understand the payment terms before agreeing to any work, and be especially cautious of anyone demanding immediate payment.
✅ HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF:
✔️ Check the company’s reputation with the Better Business Bureau (BBB).
✔️ Read Google reviews and look at the company’s history, not just its star rating.
✔️ Get multiple estimates and compare what you’re actually receiving.
✔️ Verify manufacturer certifications and ask about warranties.
✔️ Ask who will actually be installing your roof. Will it be the company you hired or a subcontracted crew?
✔️ If you believe your roof has storm damage, contact your insurance company first to understand your coverage and claims process.

Storm damage is stressful enough. Choosing someone to repair or replace your roof shouldn’t make it worse.
