• Promote literacy and the love of reading by building free book exchanges worldwide.

• Foster a sense of community and connection as we share skills, creativity and wisdom across generations. The initiative was founded by Todd Bol who designed the first “little library” on a post as a tribute to his mother, who was a book lover and school teacher. The original goal was the creation of 2,150 Little Libraries, which would surpass the number of libraries founded by Andrew Carnegie. As of June 2016, there are over 90,000 registered Little Free Library book exchanges in all 50 U.S. Little Free Library was honored to receive the 2020 World Literacy Award from the World Literacy Foundation. We are a Top-Rated Nonprofit by the Great Nonprofits organization and received Guidestar’s Platinum Seal of Transparency. Little Free Library is a recipient of the Library of Congress Literacy Award, the National Book Foundation’s Innovations in Reading Prize, Library Journal’s Movers and Shakers Award, the Women’s National Book Association’s Second Century Prize, and the Force for Positive Change Award. I wanted to thank for joining me in this year’s celebration of 🙂 Thanks too for donating 125 editions of The Dot. Thank you also to all those who volunteered to get a copy of the book into your local Little Library! Somebody suggested taping on a little set of watercolors and slipping a few sheets of watercolor paper inside the book as a surprise. I love all the creative thinking!
