That's a wrap....
For 8+ years, we've run this "little" side hustle. Started out as a handful of houses in our neighborhood that my sons and i could mow during my lunch break (and a way to justify purchasing a $2000 push mower Jenny thought was ridiculous). In short order it exploded and we sought to prove you could operate a business, pay living wages, and offer comprehensive benefits that allowed employees to provide for themselves and their families with a degree of financial security not often seen in this field. That effort had some successes as well as failures. We hemorrhaged cash to the brink every off season, but refused to layoff people in a seasonal business as many do. That said, we never missed a payroll cycle and our employees had a job, health and other insurance year round. We attempted to provide quality services with top notch customer service to back it up. I hope we succeeded on the latter and most importantly, we hope we made a difference in human lives.
But we're tired. The post-COVID labor market has been brutal. Putting Jenny and Olivia in trucks the last two years because grown men can't show up coupled with giving up our weekends to make up the rest got to be too much stress for all of us. It was a good run. We learned a lot, my sons have bigger retirement accounts than i did at their ages, and we have no regrets.
Wish everyone the best. Jenny and i have been going through our customer base for the last several days, calling anyone we weren't sure had opted to continue service with McBride, trying to make sure we didn't miss anyone and no one is left high and dry next week or beyond. If you haven't heard from us or McBride Land Services LLC by now (i really hope that count is 0!!!!), please reach out and we'll get it resolved ASAP.
We'll be traveling / camping / boating / relaxing with our weekends from here on out. Nathan, Benjamin, and August are/will be working @ McBride.
