To gain energy independence from utility companies, using solar and wind power generation is key if you have decent wind speeds available to you. Having a hybrid system allows you to generate power on cloudy days and windy nights utilizing the wind turbine. With a hybrid system you need a specific charge controller, one coupled with a dump load resistor, the green cylinder seen in the photo.
