I took this picture today and a friend reminded of a story from my personal page last year at this time and about this same type of frog, so I thought I would share an in-site to what a gardener experiences From time to time:
This little peaceful frog is the most serious attack frog that I have ever met!
He sits in a sleepy state on the edge of a Blackeyed pea but moments before he took me to war which he has managed to do more than a couple of times!
He has made his home on a high perch in my okra/blackeye pea area where everything towers my head by many feet now. I have to pull okra plant towards me and reach as high as I can to snip the okra off and I do let it just fall as both hands are holding a plant so many times I get smacked in the face with pods as they fall…..could I do this more efficiently….sure, more graceful as well…..but this is truly me and I’m telling you my stupidity to tell you about this frog!
Last week as I pulled the okra plant towards me and snipping falling okra this frog sky jumps off a leaf and just like a skydiver spreads his little compact body to five times its size to have a greater surface area for landing smack on my face!
My brain could not register if an okra had just grabbed on to my face or if I had met the hand of satan clinging to me but I nearly commuted su***de in my garden holding scissors while being attacked with a frog on my face!
The next day…..again with that! Slapped himself right on my neck! His body stretches from chin to chest but quickly coils himself up to leap off of me while I slap myself in the neck!
I scream and fuss at him!
Blackeyed pea picking….he leaps onto my head!!! I’m gonna start wearing hats cause getting a sticky mobile amphibian out of curly hair should be an Olympic event!
Today, I see him before I start, again perched high above my head waiting for the morning adventure of let’s see how fast she can dance with clippers…..(safer than scissors I have determined) I see him storing up his energy for his free fall onto my face!
Not today! My strategy has to change to deal with this!!
I am sure he sees our encounters differently than I do! I have never had a frog leap onto my head more times than this last week and only in this one area of the garden!!
