When I first got into roofing, "local company" was pretty straightforward.
A company was owned by people who lived in the community, raised their families there, sponsored local events, supported local charities, and planned to be there for decades.
Today, it's a little more complicated.
Many roofing companies still have local offices, local team members, and local branding—but ownership may be held by investors, private equity firms, or organizations headquartered somewhere else entirely.
That's not necessarily good or bad.
But I do think homeowners deserve to understand the difference.
When a company is locally owned, a larger portion of the profits often stays within the community—supporting local families, local payroll, local vendors, local charities, and local growth.
When ownership is elsewhere, those profits may ultimately flow outside the communities where the work is performed.
Again, this isn't a criticism of any specific company.
It's simply a reminder to ask questions.

✔️ Where do the profits go?
✔️ Who will be here to stand behind the work years from now?
