When unexpected weather leads to unexpected asbestos work.

Following heavy rainfall, this property required exterior repairs. Testing identified asbestos-containing siding, which needed to be properly removed before the restoration work could move forward.

Vortex Environmental completed the exterior abatement, removing the affected siding and clearing the way for the next phase of repairs.

Before you replace old flooring, know what may be underneath it.

Older sheet vinyl, floor tile, backing materials, and adhesives may contain asbestos, particularly in homes built before the 1980s. Once those materials are cut, scraped, sanded, or torn out, a routine flooring project can quickly become a regulated abatement project.

Most asbestos abatement projects in Colorado require a 10-working-day notification period through the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) before work can begin.

In certain time-sensitive situations, such as an active water loss, CDPHE may approve a waiver that allows qualified projects to begin sooner while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance.

Water damage is only part of the story.

When water affects flooring materials that contain asbestos, reconstruction can't begin immediately. Before new flooring can be installed, the asbestos-containing materials must be safely removed to protect everyone involved and prepare the property for the next phase of restoration.

On this project, asbestos-containing flooring was professionally removed, exposing the subfloor and allowing reconstruction to move forward.
