This past week, Aurora Fire Rescue in Colorado responded to a structure fire at a local hotel. The culprit was an electrical failure in a pool pump heater.

While we are thankful there were no injuries, the damage to the facility and the displacement of guests is a heavy price to pay for a mechanical failure.

Many commercial fires are preventable through:
Routine Thermal Imaging: Identifying "hot spots" in electrical panels before they ignite.
Scheduled Mechanical Audits: Ensuring high-draw equipment (like heaters and pumps) are being serviced.
Clearance Zones: Keeping storage and debris away from utility rooms.

Be Proactive, Not Reactive. To help our clients stay ahead of disasters, we offer free Emergency Response Plans (ERPs). We’ll walk your property with you to ensure your team has a roadmap ready before an emergency ever happens.

Prevention is always more cost-effective than restoration.

🚨 A reminder that even something as common as a bathroom exhaust fan can lead to major property damage if it malfunctions.

Aurora Fire Rescue in Colorado recently responded to an attic fire caused by a malfunctioning bathroom exhaust fan. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but three residents were displaced and the home sustained significant fire and smoke damage.

The homeowner first noticed a smoke odor and issues with the fan before the fire escalated hours later into an active attic fire. Situations like this are an important reminder that continuously running exhaust fans, aging motors, dust buildup, or restricted airflow can create overheating risks over time.

For homeowners, property managers, HOAs, and multifamily communities, preventative maintenance is critical. Avoid leaving exhaust fans running unnecessarily for long periods, clean bathroom exhaust fans regularly to prevent dust and lint buildup, inspect venting to ensure airflow isn’t restricted, replace aging or noisy fans before failure occurs, test smoke alarms frequently, take unusual electrical smells or sounds seriously.

Fast emergency response and proper mitigation can make a major difference in reducing secondary damage and helping families return home sooner.

Early Tuesday morning, firefighters responded to a structure fire at a vacant commercial building where an unattended warming fire spread to the building, igniting exterior siding and extending into the attic space. Thanks to a rapid, coordinated response, crews were able to quickly control the main body of fire, conduct interior searches, and fully extinguish the incident within approximately 90 minutes.

This type of loss highlights a critical reality for property owners, asset managers, and insurance partners:

🔥 Even vacant properties carry significant risk
🔥 Small, preventable actions can lead to major structural damage🔥 Fast response and strong coordination between fire, police, EMS, and restoration teams, are essential

At incidents like this, the next phase begins immediately after suppression: securing the structure, mitigating water damage, addressing smoke contamination, and preventing further loss.

If you manage vacant or transitional properties, this is a strong reminder to review risk controls and emergency response plans. Proactive partnerships make all the difference when minutes matter.

If the worst happens, call us 🤳 (888) 249-5867.

🔥 Did you know that mulch can ignite under the right conditions?

It sounds crazy, but organic materials like mulch, potting soil, compost, and planter boxes can build heat and, in rare cases, begin to smolder or catch fire.

That’s why it’s important to stay proactive, especially during hot, dry, and windy weather.

Tips: Keep mulch and planter boxes away from your home, don’t pile mulch too thick near structures, keep materials slightly moist during extreme heat, and watch for smoke, unusual heat, or burning smells. Always call 911 immediately if you see signs of fire.

Small prevention steps can stop major property damage. Stay safe out there, and if an emergency emerges, call us: 888-249-5867.

Have an emergency plan for your family or business, keep important documents backed up and accessible, review your insurance coverage annually, know evacuation routes, have a go-bag ready, and save trusted emergency contacts in advance.
