Another sign summer is winding down: our interns are heading back to school.
This one stings a little more than most. Samuel Salinas wrapped up a summer with our Waldorf Astoria Residences Cherry Creek Denver team that looked a lot more like a full-time project engineer role than an internship.
From day one, Sam took his role by the horns. He was constantly looking for ways to get involved, asking where he could help and stepping in wherever the team needed him. That stood out right away to the Waldorf team.
Sam got hands-on with the structural foundation work, including rebar QC, shotcrete basement walls and footing and column pours. As the project moved above grade, he helped coordinate underground plumbing and electrical rough-in, managed RFIs and submittals, and took the lead on the storm sewer tie-in, including takeoffs and procurement for scope gaps.
He was also there for the first-floor slab-on-deck pour that officially brought the project above grade. And Sam was rarely content just watching from the sidelines. On several pours, he jumped right in and handled the concrete pump nozzle himself.
Sam was a great addition to the Waldorf team, and we’ll miss having him around. Good luck kicking off your sophomore year at CSU, Sam!
