Another sign summer is winding down: our interns are heading back to school.

This one stings a little more than most. Samuel Salinas wrapped up a summer with our Waldorf Astoria Residences Cherry Creek Denver team that looked a lot more like a full-time project engineer role than an internship.

From day one, Sam took his role by the horns. He was constantly looking for ways to get involved, asking where he could help and stepping in wherever the team needed him. That stood out right away to the Waldorf team.

Sam got hands-on with the structural foundation work, including rebar QC, shotcrete basement walls and footing and column pours. As the project moved above grade, he helped coordinate underground plumbing and electrical rough-in, managed RFIs and submittals, and took the lead on the storm sewer tie-in, including takeoffs and procurement for scope gaps.

He was also there for the first-floor slab-on-deck pour that officially brought the project above grade. And Sam was rarely content just watching from the sidelines. On several pours, he jumped right in and handled the concrete pump nozzle himself.

Sam was a great addition to the Waldorf team, and we’ll miss having him around. Good luck kicking off your sophomore year at CSU, Sam!

Concrete progress is moving fast at Waldorf Astoria Residences Cherry Creek.

The project team recently placed more than 1,200 cubic yards of structural concrete in just eight days, including a 650-cubic-yard slab-on-deck pour.

With slab-on-grade work wrapping up, the structure is now heading vertical. Reaching this milestone has required strong coordination, careful planning and close collaboration between Hyder’s project team and our trade partners.

Great work by everyone helping move this complex project forward.

A major milestone for a community landmark.

Last Thursday, the Hyder McHugh team completed the ice slab pour at Dobson Ice Arena in Vail, marking an exciting step forward for a facility that means so much to the local community.

The pour included 300 yards of concrete placed over 10 inches of sand, multiple layers of v***r barrier, 4 inches of insulation, a hefty dose of rebar, and more than 14 miles of heated and cooled floor tubing. Completing a pour of this size in the heart of Lionshead Village during the busy summer season took careful planning, strong coordination, and a team that was ready to adapt when an I-70 closure delayed the start.

Congratulations and thank you to Arena Products, S2M, United Companies, Calco Concrete Pumping, the Town of Vail, Vail Recreation District, and the entire Hyder McHugh Dobson Ice Arena team for helping make this milestone a success.

Next up: the slab’s full 28-day cure, followed by continued work on rink-area equipment, devices, finishes, and painting as the project moves closer to substantial completion this fall.

Congratulations to Enoch Martinez on five years with Hyder!

When Enoch joined Hyder, he said he was looking for a company to call home until he retired. Five years later, we are grateful he chose Hyder and grateful for the steady impact he has made across our teams and projects.

Enoch is the kind of person people count on, especially when the pressure is high and the path forward is not simple. His reliability, collaborative approach, and “can do” attitude have made him a trusted leader in the field.

Over the past five years, Enoch has played an important role on several unique and challenging projects, including Spinelli’s, Alcove Townhomes, Evans School, and more. Whether he is helping bring a schedule back on track, managing complex logistics, or earning the confidence of repeat clients, Enoch shows up with consistency and commitment.

Thank you, Enoch, for your loyalty, dedication, and the example you set. Congratulations on five years with Hyder!

Hyder’s tower crane is up at Waldorf Astoria Residences Denver Cherry Creek, marking an exciting step forward for the 5-story, 37-residence boutique condominium development.

Getting to this point took a lot of careful work before the crane ever went up. The team has completed shoring and mass excavation, concrete foundations are underway, and months of planning and coordination have helped set the project up for the next phase of vertical construction.
