This one is going to Valley Visions this weekend.
Where the Fairies Gather, No. 1.
It’s my first Valley Visions show. One of only a handful of times I’ve shared a painting publicly at all.
Here’s the thing about this painting — it wouldn’t exist without a journey I had to take first.
I began as an art teacher. I spent years holding space for other people’s creative expression. And somewhere in facilitating Wild Women and Paint From Your Soul — frameworks built around permission, intuition, and painting without a predetermined outcome — I finally gave myself the same invitation I’d been offering everyone else.
It took a while to believe in it. To trust the abstract. To let go of what a painting was supposed to look like and follow what it actually wanted to become.
This piece is acrylic on canvas, very expressionist, watercolor-inspired. The marks you’re seeing — the grasses, the leaves, the flower heads — those are real. Printed directly from plants. Dandelions. Grasses. Leaves I picked up and pressed into paint. I work with natural and recycled materials because the making feels more honest that way.
I paint to find out what’s there. The painting knows before I do.
This is the heartbeat of heARTscapes. Process over product. Presence over perfection. Making as the entry point into something true.
And from this place — I’ll be hosting a retreat this fall. More to come soon.
Where do fairies gather? Somewhere like this. Layered and luminous and a little bit hidden.
