With all the rain we’ve been getting lately, a lot of homeowners are dealing with water in places they definitely don’t want it!
If you’re a Des Moines homeowner dealing with water issues, there’s a city program you may want to know about!
The City of Des Moines Private Property Protection Program can reimburse eligible homeowners for 100% of qualifying costs, up to $1,500, for certain improvements designed to help protect your property and keep excess water out of the sanitary sewer system.
Some of the improvements that may qualify include:
✔️ Installing or redirecting a sump pump to discharge somewhere other than the sanitary sewer
✔️ Disconnecting roof drains/downspouts from the sanitary sewer
✔️ Installing a backwater valve
A few important things to know:
📌 The property must be located within the City of Des Moines.
📌 The work must be completed by a licensed plumber.
📌 You must receive approval from the City before the work begins.
📌 Qualifying work must be completed by June 30, 2028.
If you've been dealing with water problems around your home this year, this could be a resource worth looking into before starting the work.
