A Tale of Two Second Kitchens: the Refined Scullery and the Artisan Garden Pantry

What happens behind the main kitchen can make all the difference in how a home works.

At The Wellcott, the scullery is a full second kitchen designed to keep preparation, cleanup and everyday activity running smoothly behind the scenes. It includes an oven, microwave, sink, refrigerator, generous prep counters, vegetable storage drawers and beautifully handcrafted open cabinetry.

With convenient access from the garage and outdoors, groceries, deliveries and garden harvests can come directly into this hardworking space - without traveling through the main living areas. It is equally ready to support a quiet family dinner or a house full of guests.

Then, at the Williams Farmhome, our sister company Iowa Home Crafters created a second kitchen with a very different personality: a garden-connected pantry centered around a beautiful, custom-designed artisan cabinet.

Two homes. Two interpretations. One very smart idea: let the main kitchen shine while a hardworking second kitchen handles the rest.

Not every library is designed simply to hold books. Some are created to tell a story.

This award-winning two-level residential library transforms a soaring 17-foot living room into an intimate retreat for reading, reflection, and discovery. Thoughtfully integrated into the home's contemporary architecture, the design balances scale, craftsmanship, and functionality while celebrating the lives of the people who call it home.

Every shelf, display niche, and architectural detail was carefully considered to honor the homeowners' shared journey—from treasured books and collected artwork to meaningful keepsakes, including the first painting they acquired together and cherished childhood World Book Encyclopedias.

The result is more than a library. It is a living narrative—an evolving collection of memories, passions, and experiences woven into the architecture of the home.

Today, we celebrate not only the Fourth of July, but the 250th anniversary of America's independence - a remarkable milestone in our nation's history.
