This is what a remodel looks like right before the walls close up for good.
New windows set. Plumbing roughed in. HVAC in place. Electrical run. Every trade has done their part — and now it all gets covered up by drywall.
Most people never see this part. We think it's worth showing, because the stuff you can't see is exactly what makes a home last. This home is balloon framed with no headers above the doors on the side walls. New LVL headers were installed and all the stud bays are fireblocked.

We got a text from a client this week that made our day. 😄

They had us repair a bathroom wall — and called us back to say they loved it so much, they decided NOT to tile over it. Said it looked too good to cover up.

That's the kind of work we aim for on every job, whether it ends up behind the tile or not. 49 years in Des Plaines. We take pride in every layer.

Ever wonder what actually happens at a framing inspection? We just passed one on a whole-house remodel in Des Plaines — here's the quick version. 🏗️

Before any insulation or drywall goes up, a city inspector visits the job site to check that all structural framing meets code. They're looking at:

✅ Proper header sizing above doors and windows
✅ Stud spacing and load-bearing wall placement
✅ Correct connections at the roof, floor, and foundation
✅ Rough openings for HVAC, electrical, and plumbing

Pass the inspection, and the job moves forward. It's one of those unsexy milestones that matters a lot. Good framing is what everything else in your home hangs on — literally.

This is what "adding a dormer" actually looks like.
Whole-house remodel in Des Plaines: we cut into the existing roof over the primary bedroom to frame in a new dormer that gives the homeowners a much bigger upstairs closet — turning dead attic space into real, usable square footage.
The fast part is opening the roof. The work is everything after — framing the new walls plumb and tying them into 100-year-old structure, getting the new floor system flush with the existing one, then sheathing and weather-wrapping before the next storm rolls through.
We've been remodeling old houses in the NW suburbs for over 40 years. If your house has the bones but not the storage, there's usually a way.

Swipe to see what happens when you open up a 100-year-old floor plan.
The dining room and kitchen used to be two separate rooms divided by a load-bearing wall. The homeowners wanted one open space that flows from the dining room through the kitchen to the breakfast nook — natural light moving from one end of the house to the other.
Taking down a load-bearing wall isn't a one-day job. The structure has to be carried by something else — in this case, a beam sized and engineered to handle the weight that wall was holding for the last hundred years. We pulled the permits, brought in the engineer's drawings, and put the new beam in place before the wall came down.
That's the work behind every "open concept" you see online.

Vinyl siding refresh on a classic Cape Cod near Glenview Lake. Pulled the old siding, rebuilt the soffit and fascia where it needed it, and wrapped the house in fresh vinyl with seamless aluminum gutters. The brick stays. The roofline gets cleaner. The whole place looks ten years younger.

A relatively quick shower remodel. 12x24" porcelain installed vertically with a mosaic tile waterfall on each end. Be careful of remodelers that don't install solid blocking in the wall to support the grab bars.

Just finished installing the backsplash tiling. The hood with matching crown was sprayed in place matte black with HVLP and the tile cut around it. Come back soon for the finished kitchen!
